It is not only the laing and spicy foods that make a Nagueno crowd for food. It is no surprise that they love street foods too. Along the busy streets of Naga, it is already a part of Naguenos life to see and stopover an ihawan, where we find local and exotic Pinoy street foods aligned and roasted over charcoal.
In the late afternoon to evening, within this busy street, the two nonoys set –up their ihawan and table, and pile their plastic wares filled with marinated and skewed pork and chicken innards. Naguenos gather and crowd to satisfy their cravings and sometimes hunger over a chicken or pork innard skewers and barbecue. The place where I am referring at—Naga City Subdivison, where we have observed long queues of Naguenos ordering their favorite delectable street foods like isaw, betamax, balat, barbecue, hotdog, and baticolon. Besides the popular barbecue stalls in Plaza Quezon, we have also visited this simple barbecue stand in Naga City Subdivision that even people from other baranggays come, cars line up and park in the streets just to taste their much loved Filipino street food dipped in either sweetened vinegar and of course, the spicy vinegar with pieces of siling labuyo, sliced onions and pepper. The usual price of the food ranges from P2 to P7. They do not usually sell drinks like palamig but soft drinks, which is best paired off with the street foods are available in the (very) nearby stores.
For me, the tangy taste of the barbecue and chicken innards in their special sweet marinade and chili vinegar dip made this food distinct from other barbecue stalls I have tried here in Naga. And among the aforementioned street foods they sell, betamax (dried chicken blood in cubes) is what I enjoy the most! Experience Filipino street foods!
